While thinking about my annual forecast for custom home design trends, the word consistency kept coming to my mind. In the last couple of years, and I suspect the same will be true for 2023, the way space is being utilized in custom home design seems to be holding true. No matter the location and region of the projects I’m working on, full service or virtual consultations, today the spaces, amenities and symmetrical layouts clients want in their custom homes are relatively consistent from project to project.

When it comes to decorating for the holiday season, I like to use things that are festive, visually impactful, require little to no storage, and are as easy to take down and put away, as they were to put up.

The Longview Estate Project is located in the Sacramento Valley of Northern California, in a small farming community, surrounded by vast acreage of beautiful fruit and nut tree orchards.

The clients, whom I’ve worked with over the years, on their different homes, reached out for help with their guest house project. Their goal is to take the existing structure and remodel it so as to better serve the needs of their changing family.

TIPS FOR DESIGNING A GUEST SUITE

A few days ago, I randomly came across the preliminary design concept boards and drawings for the Guest Suite at the Mount Valley Project (a semi-custom home in Utah, where we went though each room perfecting the floor plan and adding architectural detail and custom cabinetry, etc). Though the space didn’t turn out exactly how planned, seeing our drawings and the concept board made me remember how much I loved the aesthetic and spatial direction we went with the space. Perhaps it will inspire you in some way.
