Perfect Your Floor Plan

what I’m offering

A brand-new, stand-alone service to help you foresee, fix, and finesse your floor plans
to avoid problems before construction starts.

We feel so fortunate to have come across Tami’s Instagram account. Her passion for spatial design and functionality in her plans resonated with us. She was extremely responsive and came to our meeting well-prepared with great ideas to improve our current layout. We really appreciated the fresh set of eyes and feel more confident going into the building process after our meeting. A full set of plans from Tami would be financially beyond our reach, but the floor plan review process was just what we needed to fine-tune our current set of plans. Thank you, Tami!

The Details

One-hour intensive video conferencing sessions that will be full of insight and information specific to your project. We’ll review your plans together, answer any questions you have, and I will use my spatial planning expertise to point out any challenges I see and potential ways to overcome them. This is a stand-alone service, but one that can be benefitted from and repeated at almost any stage of the design process. You can even book back-to-back sessions for a more in-depth two-hour intensive.

The Why

I know firsthand what a tremendous difference this process can have in the success of a project. Not long ago, I received a design inquiry from someone whose home was under construction. After the walls went up and the drywall was hung, panic set in because things they didn't see, or recognize, as problems when the floor plan was only on paper, were now glaring on the construction site. Though I would have loved to help them, the project had progressed too far for me to provide any quick fixes.

Sadly, this isn’t an isolated case. Because I’ve made spatial design and problem-solving my specialty, these types of emails and phone calls have become far too familiar. I receive inquiries from people throughout the country asking for rushed help and my heart sinks when they send me their floor plans because I can clearly see how, with care and thoughtful planning, I could have helped them avoid their current predicaments. I couldn't help them, but I can help you.

Why Me?

During my time teaching interior design classes at CSUC, Chico in Northern CA, I would make my way around the design studio and provide instantaneous feedback for my students to help them improve and perfect their designs. I loved the interaction and the part I played in helping them improve their projects. Though I’m no longer in the classroom, my love for the classroom experience has never left me.

I’ve spent more than 20 years specializing in interior architecture and spatial problem-solving. I’ve designed more spaces than I can even count. I have a keen eye that is well trained to spot spatial issues. I know that the best way to avoid regrets is through well-designed floor plans and correcting issues on paper before they become a problem on the construction site.

Who are these services for?

Both design clients and interior design professionals who may not have expertise in spatial design can benefit from the service.

When is the ideal time to book a floor plan review?

These services are intended for clients who are close to finalizing their floor plans but still have the time and flexibility to make revisions but can also be done at almost any stage of the design process. Before your consultation with me, your floor plans will need to show plumbing fixtures, and cabinet layouts.

Do I need to bring a list of questions to guide our consultation?

Please do, that way we are sure to cover your concerns. Even so, as we review your floor plan, I will instinctively be able to see and identify areas that need refinement. From there, I’ll provide actionable, tailored advice for your project to do as you please with it.

May I ask general design questions during my consultation?

Though the intent of the floor plan review and consultations is to focus on spatial design and problem solving, the time you book is your’s and can be used as you see fit. Once we cover the most pressing topics, I’m happy to respond to any other concerns or questions you might have about interior design.

Is 60 minutes enough time to get through most concerns?

Short answer: yes. Because of my 20 years of experience working with clients building their forever homes, I have a trained eye for interior and spatial design, rooted in my knowledge and practiced expertise of the conventions of space. Unlike many interior designers whose areas of focus are colors, materials, and furnishings, I specialize in spatial design working between the intersection of interior design and architecture. This means that I’m practiced and have advanced knowledge when it comes to distilling a floor plan to its most basic essence and ensuring that livability and functionality are a priority.

Upon viewing your floor plans, I will identify areas of concern that you may not have seen as well as weigh in on the form and functionality of your space. Please note: the floor plan review is designed to be a quick intensive and you’ll receive rapid-fire advice so you can make the necessary improvements to your own floor plan.

Can I purchase this service even if Im working with an interior designer/architect/building designer/structural engineer already?

Yes! That is exactly what this service is intended for.
One of the benefits of booking a floor plan review is receiving a second opinion on your floor plan so you can have full confidence knowing your spaces will flow and function effectively.

Can I schedule a floor plan review if I designed the floor plan myself?

Absolutely! No matter who designed the floor plan, an architect, building designer, structural engineer, builder, and yes, even you! I’m here to help you improve your floor plan. Though this is a stand-alone service, it is one that can be benefitted from and repeated at almost any stage of the design process, and especially true for those who are designing their own floor plans.

What happens if I'm not satisfied with my consultation?

I have the education, experience, and skill to advise you on spatial design based on the floor plans you provide. I know from years of experience the importance and value floor plan reviews bring to a project. I can’t however guarantee that you will be satisfied with the advice you receive, nor can I take responsibility for how you proceed with that information. It will be up to you to follow through with the design professional you are working with to see how best to implement the suggestions. No refunds will be given.

After my floor plan review, will I be able to pass on the floor plans to you to make the corrections and changes we discuss?

Although I wish I could take the project to the next step and provide the edited floor plans, this service is a stand-alone, consultation service only. We can however do a follow-up consultation to review the changes that were implemented to the floor plan so you can get additional feedback.

Can I bring a guest to the floor plan review and consultation?

Sure. It’s your time, You’re welcome to invite a trusted someone to join you. You’ll just want to make sure that no matter who’s there that you’ll still be able to focus.

Is it OK if I record the meeting so I can refer to it later?

Yes. We’ll be covering a lot of ground. Recording our time together will allow you to listen with more ease and without the pressure of taking notes.
